Ashton and Benton

Last month two young men chose to celebrate their birthdays by supporting Denver Children’s Home. Rather than a birthday wishlist for themselves, Ashton and Benton picked gifts off of our Wishlist and donated those gifts to our kids. These wonderful generous spirits lifted our spirits as well, guided by another wonderful volunteer that had worked with us before:

“I volunteered with my therapy dog at DCH many years ago. He worked especially well with children, and we enjoyed our visits at DCH. I was impressed by DCH’s mission and its program. I like the fact that DCH provides a safe and nurturing place for kids who have suffered difficult circumstances. The staff at DCH appears to really care about the kids and strives to provide a comfortable environment. DCH also equips its residents with important life skills like teamwork and daily chores.

Today I have kids of my own -- twin boys, Ashton and Benton. Recently, as their 9th birthday approached, we discussed Denver Children’s Home. They liked the idea of helping other kids their own age and got excited about donating the same toys they are interested in like basketballs and Legos.

According to Ashton, ‘It made us feel good to give kids toys that make them happy. My favorite thing that I learned that they do is after school programs like soccer and basketball.’

According to Benton, ‘I love playing basketball, and while I was taking a tour at the Denver Children’s Home, I asked if the kids liked basketball. When I heard that they do, I was so happy that I could help kids that like basketball like me. My favorite thing that I learned is that they have a lot of games and a T.V. for the kids at Denver Children’s Home.’

We look forward to future opportunities to donate and serve when possible!”
