Zuma’s Rescue Ranch
Last month, Denver Children’s Home got back in session with Zuma**!! We have had an incredible time with the new group of clients. Today was focused on orienting the group to the ranch, the animals, and the typical routine/structure of sessions. Clients were pretty talkative on the car ride, expressing interest and excitement about Zuma.
Once we arrived at the ranch, clients met and got to know Zuma staff, Misty, Shelly, Mackenzie, and Macy. Staff reviewed expectations, safety precautions, and provided an introduction to equine training. Next, the group participated in a tour of the ranch and learned how to muck and clean the paddocks to practice volunteerism.
At the end of the session, the group practiced greeting the animals to begin building relationships, and learned the importance of energy management and grounding while interacting with the horses. Clients ended session by participating in a brief journal reflection and discussion to identify what they've learned, a highlight from their day, and what they are most looking forward to.
